About

Why Hotspots Miami exists

Hotspots Miami is a neighborhood-focused public record for collecting resident concerns and translating them into a clearer picture of how the city performs. It is designed around practical local issues like heat, sidewalks, crossings, transit comfort, flooding, and other daily barriers.

Community PSA

Why does Miami flood on sunny days?

This PSA project was developed through my involvement with the Junior SeaKeepers, where I researched urban flooding and sea level rise in Miami and worked to translate complex environmental issues into accessible, community-focused information. As part of this program, I created this campaign to raise awareness about the causes and impacts of flooding while encouraging local action. This PSA, along with my full research project, will be presented at the Junior SeaKeepers Annual End-of-Year Symposium, where it aims to inform and engage both community members and environmental leaders.

What it explains

  • Sea level rise can push water back into streets and drains.
  • Outdated stormwater systems struggle during heavy rain and king tides.
  • Too much pavement leaves water with fewer places to soak into the ground.

How it connects to Hotspots Miami

The PSA turns awareness into action. Residents can learn why flooding happens, then use Hotspots Miami to report flood-prone intersections, blocked drains, and repeated water buildup in their neighborhoods.
